Thanks for an article full of great tips. I think prioritising is key, and in order to do this you have to be prepared to let go of some tasks - that's the hard part, especially if you're a bit of a perfectionist! I think if you can be super critical on what absolutely must get done and do it, then it sets you up to be better able to walk away and switch off come vacation time. It'a also important to view vacation time as an investment for your future success at work. This can help reduce the guilt of being away from customers and projects. Believing that the rest and relaxation you'll get whilst away will only make you more effective upon your return can also help transition into downtime. It's all about balance, right?!

Seriously, how can people be upset with LeBron for making that decision? Can you blame a person for wanting a success?

I say, good for you LeBron and hope you win it with Heat next season!

[...] My own son spent 30 some odd days counting down the momentous occasion of LeBron choosing where he wanted to go . Where do I begin. Let’s start with Dan Gilbert and get him out of the way. As the owner of a team I think he has shown a …. Did he overstay his welcome? Yes I think he did . Seven years is a long time in NBA years to dedicate your heart and soul to a team , a company only to not see tangible results.
Great post Adrienne, you're dead on especially the points regarding the Cavaliers ownership. Lebron owed them nothing except as you pointed out a "heads up" , they and the NBA have made so much money off of King James the last seven years, they had more than enough time to have a plan b for when Lebron left. Classic example of putting all your eggs in one basket.

Hi Carla.

Thanks for your comment. I love that we can disagree. If everyone thought the same it would be a boring world!

I get what you're saying about Dan Gilbert being hurt. And I did address that in my article. LeBron showed poor ethics in not at least giving him a heads up that he would not be returning so they cold direct that energy into getting other players. So I agree there. BUT as a professional, the public letter was a bad move. And it was an even worse move to GUARANTEE a win without him. Can they do it? Who knows. But if they don't he'll look like a fool later on.

As far as LeBron's choice to leave, let's look at this from an average working person's point of view. If you are unhappy where you are, and you know you had the opportunity for success elsewhere, you're telling me you would stay miserable out of loyalty? I wouldn't. There's a lot to be said about loyalty, but there's even more to be said for protecting your own sanity and happiness. Kobe choosing to stay is what made him happy. Tim Duncan staying is what made him happy. I don't believe that anyone should stay with a job, team, company if they are not happy. If LeBron was a Project Manager for Coca Cola, nobody would be deriding him about his decision.

The point is follow your bliss. You can't make everyone happy, but the only person that matters is you.

Please keep the comments coming everyone.
